Neupogen

What is Neupogen?

Neupogen (Filgrastim) is a man-made version of a natural substance produced by the immune system in your body. This substance is used to help your body make more white blood cells. These white blood cells are important to regulate the function of the immune system. Filgrastim is normally given to people whose ability to make white blood cells is reduced (for instance, due to chemotherapy, chronic neutropenia, or exposure to large amounts of radiation). It is also used in certain treatment procedures (such as bone marrow/stem cell transplant).
Filgrastim was approved for medical use in the United States in 1991. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

Who needs Neupogen uterine wash?

Endometrial thickness is an important factor in a successful IVF cycle. There is evidence to suggest that if the endometrial thickness is less than 7 mm at the time of embryo transfer, pregnancy rates are negatively affected. There are women whose endometrial thickness does not reach an ideal measure of around 8 mm or higher before the embryo transfer despite the use of standard methods and protocols. In those women where the endometrial thickness is difficult to be attained, Neupogen uterine wash has been shown to be an effective option.

How is it done?

Neupogen uterine wash is a simple outpatient procedure and is similar to a cervical smear.

When and how often is it carried out?

The uterine wash is usually carried out during the stimulation (of the ovaries and/or the endometrium) period. The frequency depends on your doctor’s recommendations.
