Recurrent Miscarriage Screening Tests

Recurrent miscarriages are traumatic experiences, defined as having 3 or more consecutive miscarriages. 1 in 100 women suffer from recurrent miscarriages and it is possible that the underlying reason may not be identified.

There are many causes for recurrent miscarriages, which include:

  • Genetic factors
  • Age
  • Egg and embryo quality
  • Autoimmune factors
  • Sperm quality
  • Clotting disorders
  • Abnormalities affecting the womb cavity

What tests can I have?

We offer a range of blood tests, which include:

  • Full Blood Count (FBC)
  • Coagulation Profile
  • Anti-thrombin III
  • Factor V
  • Leiden Gene
  • Factor II Prothrombin gene
  • MTHFR gene
  • Fibrinogen
  • Lupus Anticoagulant
  • Protein C
  • Free protein S Ag
  • Anticardiolipin Antibodies
  • Thyroid Function Tests

Along with screening tests, we would recommend an ultrasound scan, which may show an abnormality. A hysteroscopy may be required as it can identify problems such as congenital uterine abnormalities, which may not be easily visible on ultrasound scan.

We can also offer a Sperm DNA Fragmentation test, which looks at the rate of genetic abnormalities in a sperm sample.
