Treatment with Donor Eggs

We offer egg donation treatment through a clinic in Cyprus, although all care before and after treatment is carried out in the UK through NHS consultants and UK health professionals.

Who are our donors?

Our donors are from a variety of backgrounds and most are between 21 – 28 years of age. They all have a normal body weight and a healthy medical history.

All of our donors are tested for all the infectious disease and genetic screening performed in the UK according to the criteria of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

We can offer donors matching your individual requirements with no waiting lists. The clinic achieves this by maintaining a pool of over 200 pre-screened donors from a variety of backgrounds. Therefore, you can plan your treatment and travel dates around a schedule that suits you. Your physical characteristics and blood groups are matched before identifying the right donor for you.

10 Egg Guarantee

Our partner, Crown IVF Cyprus, guarantee that each recipient patient will have at least 10 eggs allocated for their treatment from the same donor. If 10 eggs cannot be provided, then Crown IVF will provide new treatment free of charge.

Initial Consultation

You do not need to be referred by a doctor. This appointment involves taking a full medical history, discussing your requirements and answering any questions you may have.

If you wish to proceed with treatment, you will be required to complete a Donor Characteristics form.

Screening Tests

Before you can be matched with an egg donor, blood tests will need to be carried out. We may require a letter from your GP stating there are no contra-indications to you carrying a pregnancy. For male partners, a semen analysis test will be required.

Choosing your donor

We will provide you with a choice of suitable donors matching your criteria.

Although regulations state that donors must remain anonymous, we will provide you with the following information on the donor:

  • Age
  • Body build
  • Hair colour
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Eye colour
  • Education
  • Profession
  • Country of origin

Counselling

Every patient undergoing treatment with us must have a counselling session. We will arrange an appointment for you with our independent counsellor to discuss the full implications of IVF with egg donation.

Consultant Review and Scan

During this meeting, your screening results will be reviewed and you may require a transvaginal ultrasound scan.

Treatment Commences

At this stage, you and your donor are now ready to commence treatment. The treatment will need to be synchronised. Your patient coordinator/nurse in the UK will plan your treatment with your coordinator in Cyprus.

You will receive a detailed treatment plan and a package of medication will be delivered to your home. You can call your patient coordinator/nurse if you have any questions regarding your treatment.

Preparing Your Embryos

When you travel to Cyprus, your donor will be ready to have her eggs collected in the next day or so. On the day of egg collection, your partner will be required to provide a semen sample. Fertilisation will be achieved by ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).

You will receive regular updates from your coordinator in Cyprus to keep you informed on how the embryos are progressing.

Your coordinator in Cyprus will provide you with a date and time to return to the clinic for your embryo transfer.

After your embryo transfer, you can return home. You will be advised on the dose of medication to continue taking by the team in Cyprus.

Pregnancy Test

You will be required to take a pregnancy test approximately 2 weeks after the embryo transfer.

Whatever the result, we will continue to provide help, advice and support.

If the result is positive:

Please call us to inform us of the result. Your medication regime will be continued until the 12th week of pregnancy. We will arrange a scan for you.

If the result is negative:

If the test result is negative, please contact your nurse/coordinator for advice on medication. We would advise you to have a follow-up consultation whenever you feel ready.
